Planet Smoothie, a Petrus Brands company, announced its Pink Promise Smoothie, named after the fighting survivors of breast cancer who have rallied around the global efforts of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
The Pink Promise Smoothie, researched and developed by Planet Smoothie’s nutritionist and approved by Komen for the Cure’s breast health experts, is the first product of its kind to benefit Komen. The Pink Promise Smoothie features a blend of pomegranate juice, ruby red grapefruit juice, strawberries, and Planet Smoothie’s new proprietary prebiotic and probiotic yogurt, giving it high levels of anti-oxidants and live cultures, ideal for the warrior in all women.
“The Pink Promise Smoothie is filled with antioxidant-rich fruits, which are so essential for fending off free radicals that can contribute to a whole host of chronic diseases,” says Donna Shields, nutrition and recipe consultant for Planet Smoothie. “The added prebiotic- and probiotic-based frozen yogurt lends calcium, protein, and good bacteria necessary for keeping digestive tracts functioning.”
“A relationship with such a notable, altruistic organization as Susan G. Komen for the Cure is a crowning moment in our 15-year-history,” says Tra Williams, president of Planet Smoothie. “So much so that we felt it was important to develop a product that benefits the women who fight the fight everyday against breast cancer. We wanted to be thoughtful about the nutritional profile as well, loading it with ‘super’ nutrients and reducing sugars.” The Pink Promise Smoothie represents the first in a series of newly formulated smoothies featuring Planet Smoothie’s new proprietary yogurt and the removal of Turbinado (refined sugar), which will debut soon in 2010.
The Pink Promise Smoothie will be introduced at the Planet Smoothie annual convention and the announcement will be celebrated with a private concert performed by country singer Candy Coburn, whose Pink Warrior song rallies women across America to participate in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure, a 60-mile walk taking place over three days. Beginning June 1, for every Pink Promise Smoothie sold, Planet Smoothie will donate 50 cents to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, with a minimum guaranteed donation of $100,000 in the first year of partnership.
“We are thrilled to be named the beneficiary of the sales of the Pink Promise Smoothie,” says Katrina McGhee, senior vice president of global business development and partnerships at Susan G. Komen for the Cure. “This relationship is special to us in that Planet Smoothie, like Komen, is very forward thinking and health conscious, and we hope to continue our partnership with them for many years to come.”
