Although the North Texas Mean Green came up short against Kansas State in the first round of the 2010 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, Pizza Inn still wants to make everyone in the Denton, Texas, area a winner.

Pizza Inn Inc., headquartered in Denton County, Texas, would have offered a free medium cheese or medium pepperoni carryout pizza had the Mean Green beaten Kansas State in the first round of the tournament. Instead, Pizza Inn will celebrate the Mean Green’s great season record of 24-9 with a pizza buffet specially priced at $2.49 the entire day of March 22, at the chain’s Denton location, located at 501 W. University Dr.

“Pizza Inn would like to congratulate the North Texas Men’s Basketball team and their fans on a terrific season,” says Adrian De La Garza, corporate marketing manager of Pizza Inn Inc. “We continue to support Mean Green Athletics and this deal celebrates the basketball team’s amazing season.”

With a 66-63 victory over Troy in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament Championship, North Texas won an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. It was the third appearance in school history and second in the last four years. The Mean Green established a school record for victories with 24 wins and carried an 11-game winning streak into the tournament.

“Any year a team makes it to the Big Dance, it is an unbelievable accomplishment,” De La Garza says. “These young men worked hard all year and we at Pizza Inn hope they can make the tournament again in 2011.”
