Grammy-winning performer Chance The Rapper will greet fans, grill Nando’s PERi-PERi chicken and help celebrate the Grand Opening of the new Nando’s restaurant on Michigan Avenue in Chicago on Tuesday September 5. Nando’s will donate all proceeds from sales at the new flagship location, over three days, Tuesday, September 5 to Thursday, September 7, to Chance’s non-profit, SocialWorks, which helps empower Chicago youth.

Chance will make an appearance at Nando’s at Michigan Avenue and Lake Street (entrance at 117 E. Lake Street) at 6 p.m. CT on September 5, the same day the Chicago public schools open. He will man the grills, deliver Nando’s PERi-PERi grilled chicken to fans and speak about the importance of supporting Chicago public schools and nurturing local talent. Customers and fans who want to support SocialWorks can attend the Grand Opening or eat at the new Nando’s anytime from Tuesday September 5 to Thursday September 7.

“At a young age, Chance The Rapper has endeared himself to Chicago and the nation through his talent and passionate commitment to his community,” says Sepanta Bagherpour, Vice President of Marketing for Nando’s PERi-PERi USA. “We can’t think of a better ambassador to help Nando’s celebrate the Grand Opening of our flagship Chicago location, and to help support public education in a city we love.”

“Nando’s has a history of supporting public schools and community non-profits when they open new restaurants, which I really admire,” Chance says. “Besides, they make damn good chicken, so I hope everyone will come out and eat some peri-peri chicken and help us raise money for SocialWorks.”

Nationwide, Nando’s has donated more than $225,000 to public schools and local non-profit organizations, all through opening-week sales.

Nando’s new Michigan Avenue location marks the 12th Nando’s to open in and around Chicago over the past two years. Every Nando’s is unique and painstakingly designed, with earthy textures and bright colors that reflect Nando’s sunny African-Portuguese heritage. With thousands of pieces of original works of art that are a constant reminder of where the restaurant came from, Nando’s has become the largest collector of South African contemporary art in the world. Vibrant South African designs provide a unifying theme at the new Michigan Avenue restaurant, as well.

The new Nando’s will open for business on Monday September 4, at 11 a.m. CT. The Grand Opening will be Tuesday, September 5. Regular hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Nando’s will donate all proceeds through sales (excluding alcohol) to SocialWorks, from September 5–7. Check out more on SocialWorks here.
