A fresh place to grab a bite, kick back with a cold drink and stay awhile is headed to South Scottsdale. Cheba Hut “Toasted” Subs, the counter-culture sandwich shop known for its chill atmosphere, cottonmouth cures, and bold flavors that hit just right, arrives Oct. 26, planted at 2200 N. Scottsdale Road, Suite 110, south of Oak Street and north of McDowell Road.
Just south of Old Town Scottsdale, with its world-class shopping, buzzing nightlife, major events and tightly packed arts scene, the restaurant sits close to some of the region’s go-to outings. Guests can fuel up before visiting the Phoenix Zoo, swing by after exploring Papago Park, stop in on the way to Scottsdale Stadium during Cactus League season or make a side quest out of browsing The Antique Trove, Scottsdale Pawn Shop and Sidewalk Surfer Skate Shop.
South Scottsdale marks the 13th Cheba Hut in the Phoenix area and the latest milestone in a fast run for franchise owners Justin and Michelle Lemos, who now operate five shops in less than two years. They launched in North Scottsdale in February 2025, followed with the 101 and Shea a month later, additionally taking over Paradise Valley from Cheba Hut headquarters in January and adding Arcadia in June.
“Long before we owned a Cheba Hut, we were regulars who came in for the best sandwich we’d ever had and stuck around for the music, the art and a crew that actually loved being there,” said Justin Lemos, franchise owner. “Those folks are still what it’s all about for us. We promote from within and hire locally, so every opening creates a path for someone on our team to step into something bigger. South Scottsdale means more homegrown careers taking root right alongside the subs.”
Like every destination across the Chebaverse, the location tells a local story on its walls. Joshua Finley, who has left his mark on more than 50 Cheba Hut locations nationwide, reimagining the surrounding Old Town “village” as a scene straight out of an anime series. Additional Cheba Hut references fill the frame, along with Easter eggs that reward a second look (and maybe a third).
Beyond the centerpiece mural, the space doubles as a showcase for Valley creators, featuring work by pop cannabis artist Aubri Swell (@MaryJaneArtCompany) and wood artist Basile Taylor (@BasileMakesThings). The owners plan to extend that spotlight to more makers and artisans, with original art for sale so fans can take a little piece of Cheba home. Behind the counter, a full-service bar pours liquor, beer and wine from shelves meant to keep changing. The team will keep adding bottles and taps based on Arizona favorites and crowd requests, so the lineup grows right alongside the neighborhood.
For first-timers, Cheba Hut serves more than 30 signature toasted subs named for classic strains and available in Nug (4-inch), Pinner (8-inch) and Blunt (12-inch) sizes. Regulars reach for the White Widow, stacked with chicken, bacon and ranch. The Kali Mist turns up the heat on a club piled with turkey, pepper jack and more of that bacon. The Dank layers pepperoni, salami, marinara and melted mozzarella into a pizza-inspired build, and the Griefo goes green with cream cheese, avocado and fresh vegetables.
For something beyond the main event, the menu has plenty of options built for late-night cravings, from pretzel nugs and garlic cheese bread to Krispy Bars, goo balls and cookies, plus the Kool-Aid that’s been quenching thirst since day one.
Cheba Hut South Scottsdale will be open Sunday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., with extended hours until midnight Friday and Saturday.
With its mix of toasted sandwiches, unserious humor, neighborhood-first mindset and a disrespectful mascot named “Flip the Bird,” Cheba Hut is ready to make Scottsdale a little more dank, one sub at a time.
