Church’s Texas Chicken dives into the world of super hot to find the perfect pepper for their new signature hot sauce, as part of Hulu’s new documentary series “Superhot: The Spicy World of Pepper People.” Debuting with a full ten-episode drop in celebration of National Hot Sauce Day, “Superhot” promises a wild, behind-the-scenes ride into the world of “chili heads”, going “deep into a subculture fueled by spice: from the elite growers who strive to create new superhots to the chili eaters who chase the endorphin rush of consuming them.”

Featured prominently in episodes eight and nine, Church’s Texas Chicken Chefs Kevin Houston and Eric Stein are joined by members of the brand’s executive team to put the pepper growers to the test and help inspire a signature hot sauce for release this spring.

“The growing popularity of bold and daring flavors in recent years has added to the rising phenomenon of all things spicy – which has been Church’s signature for more than 70 years,” says Chef Houston. “We were thrilled to lend our chops to ‘Superhot’ and be part of an exciting journey that shows off the lives of these truly one-of-a-kind people and, ultimately tap their fiery ambitions to help create a new signature hot sauce for our restaurants nationwide.”

This ten-episode series explores all aspects of the hot pepper world, from the growers placing meticulous effort into growing peppers curated for maximum heat, to the ever-prevalent hot sauce industry and the adventurous hotheads tasting the world’s most fiery peppers just for the thrill of it.

“Our series is all about the world of superhot and the people who live for heat. As we were filming, we learned that Church’s Texas Chicken began the hunt for their next signature spicy sauce, and immediately, we knew we needed to film it all,” says Brian Skope, executive producer and director of the show. “As they looked to find the perfect spice to accent their world-famous chicken, we had a unique opportunity to examine how superhot pepper growers might inspire Church’s secret sauce. Chef Kevin and the rest of the Church’s team were invaluable in helping showcase a special group of chili heads with the same intensity for bringing the heat!”
