Local Dunkin’ Donuts franchisees in Providence, Rhode Island—Joe, Chris, and Cliff Prazeres—and their fellow franchisees, employees, suppliers, and partners exceeded their goal of raising more than $250,000 for Special Olympics Rhode Island at the 5th Annual John Henderson Invitational Golf Tournament held at Kirkbrae Country Club in Lincoln, Rhode Island.
The Prazeres family made a five-year commitment in 2009 to raise $250,000 to help fund the construction of a sports education and training facility at Special Olympics Rhode Island headquarters.
The room is named the John Henderson Sports Education and Training Room in honor of the Dunkin’ Donuts franchisee who passed away in 2007 and was an ardent supporter of Special Olympics.
The facility will provide coaches and volunteers the adequate training to support a year-round schedule of more than 1,400 training and competition opportunities in 23 different sports.
The Sports Education and Training Facility will also be used to conduct Athlete Leadership Program training for athletes and coaches, in addition to holding Family Support Network meetings.
