Los Angeles based hospitality company The Madera Group, LLC announced plans to open 11 new locations throughout the U.S. and abroad by the end of 2019. In November, the company received a $20.85 million capital investment from Breakwater Management LP to help fund their continued geographic expansion of Tocaya Organica, a fresh-casual Modern Organic Mexican concept with 10 locations currently open, and Toca Madera, a fine dining establishment that serves premium organic Mexican food in a high-energy atmosphere with one location currently open. The company will also continue to bolster its sustainability efforts in 2019 and set a new standard in wellness-focused corporate culture.
TMG’s addition of 11 locations in 2019 is projected to include four new venues in Arizona. Three of these will be Tocaya Organica restaurants, located at Phoenix Esplanade (2525 E Camelback Road), Union Tempe (110 East University Drive), and Scottsdale Fashion Square (7014 E Camelback Road). The fourth venue will be the company’s second outpost of Toca Madera, slated to open at Scottsdale Fashion Square in fall 2019. This will bring TMG to five venues in Arizona by end of year, including the Kierland Commons Tocaya Organica that opened in 2018.
In addition, TMG plans to open six new Tocaya Organica locations in Southern California, including Westfield UTC (4301 La Jolla Village Dr #2003) and Westwood (1140 Gayley Ave), both in Q1, as well as Downtown Los Angeles at Atelier (801 S. Olive St), Toluca Lake (4301 W. Riverside Drive), Del Mar at One Paseo (3725 Paseo Place), and Long Beach (2nd & PCH).
“We are thrilled to be expanding our footprint in Arizona and in Southern California,” says CEO and Co-Founder of TMG, Tosh Berman. “Our company has roots in both regions and we are excited to continue our growth and bring our mission for better eating to an even wider audience.”
Finally, TMG plans to open its first overseas location this year, with the debut of Toca Madera in Dubai. With a visually stunning design, seductive ambiance, and award-winning menu, Toca Madera transports guests to a world that is both modern and timeless—an ethos that aligns well with the Dubai diner.
“Toca Madera is a favorite for the adventurous yet health-conscious,” says Berman. “The restaurant re-imagines traditional Mexican cuisine by taking a modern approach, pairing locally-sourced ingredients with bold flavors, and offering a shared-plate menu that has options for every eater, as well as farm-to-glass cocktails that use only fresh, seasonal ingredients. We look forward to bringing this unique, fine dining experience to a completely new market.”
As TMG expands, the company will continue to prioritize efforts toward sustainability in the new year. Sustainability at TMG restaurants starts with responsible sourcing of organic ingredients, but also includes printing on recycled paper, using eco-friendly to-go products (like paper straws and compostable containers with recyclable lids), as well as utilizing reclaimed wood and LED lighting in their restaurants. Tocaya has also launched its own charitable arm—TocayaLife—which is committed to activities and initiatives that bring about positive impact on local communities and the environment. The company is dedicated to hosting quarterly street and beach cleanups, which it plans to continue to do with its forthcoming locations.
In addition to opening and maintaining restaurants that focus on fresh, organic food with vegan and gluten-free options, TMG encourages a healthy lifestyle for its employees and strives to keep raising the bar for a wellness-focused corporate culture in 2019. The company proudly offers concierge health and wellness consultations for employees from Dr. Ryan Greene, DO, MS. Dr. Greene also serves as a medical consultant on menu development for Tocaya Organica, ensuring that every menu item supports a movement toward healthy, better eating and wholesome living.
