Planet Sub is proud to announce its first restaurant has opened in Austin, Texas. Located in the Brodie Oaks Shopping Center, Planet Sub has officially opened doors for its first franchise store in the state of Texas.
Franchisees Kirk and Jan Swinney have plans to open at least seven units in the Austin area. Joining them with more than 20 years of combined experience with the brand, Chris Komsthoeft and Josh Klusman have jumped on board, taking their love of Planet Sub’s oven-baked sandwiches to the vibrant community of Austin.
They are under construction on a second store at in Downtown Austin and plan to open that store within several months.
Planet Sub started in 1979 as a single sub shop called Yello Sub in the college town of Lawrence, Kansas, serving oven-baked subs. In 1998, Jeff Klusman and Sean Kelly, discontent with their corporate jobs, decided to shed their suits and struck off on a new adventure with family and friends, choosing to embrace the culture and history of Yello Sub, and created the first ever Planet Sub restaurant.
Fast forward another 15 years, and Planet Sub has grown to more than 37 locations in seven states with new stores planned for Austin; St. Louis; Topeka, Kansas; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and the state of Florida. International growth is also planned for the near future.
Planet Sub features more than 40 oven-baked sub varieties and an eclectic product mix, featuring ingredients like sun-dried tomatoes, fresh-made guacamole, whipped cream cheese, five-grain tempeh, and hand-sliced meats, cheeses, and veggies.
Sandwiches include The Super Hero, which features salami, pepperoni, spicy capicola, provolone, red onions, lettuce, banana peppers, oregano, vinegar, and oil. Planet Sub also has more than nine vegetarian sandwiches, as well as made-to-order salads, soups, and a variety of catering options.
