    Quiznos Expands Low-Carb Offerings

    According to a recent survey conducted by Quiznos and International Communications Research, lowering carbohydrates is the most popular diet trend, with 20 percent of Americans cutting carbs.

    However, the survey also indicates that 61 percent of Americans who are low-carb dieters find it difficult to stick to the rigid guidelines. Why? 63 percent of consumers felt the hardest part of staying on a low-carb diet is that they are not allowed to eat their favorite foods. 78 percent felt that there is not enough variety and the diet is not convenient to their lifestyle. As a result, 41 percent of Americans who have tried cutting carbs have been yo-yoing on and off the diet.

    In response, Quiznos has rolled out what it calls "the next phase of low carb living" in the form of its Low Carb Toasty Flatbread sandwiches, each of which contains under 10 grams net carbohydrates. Consumers can order any Quiznos sub on top of low-carb flatbread, instead of a standard roll.

    "We are entering the next phase of low-carb living, where consumers are demanding options and seeking an overall healthy lifestyle," said nutritionist Patricia Bannan, M.S., R.D., in a statement issued by Quiznos. "The only way people will stick to any kind of diet is if they like the food, it's convenient, and they have enough variety in their menu options. Don’t think of it in terms of a diet that you go on or off. People need a balanced, healthful way of life that you can stick with over time, which is exactly what the Quiznos Toasty Flatbreads allow you to do."

    The line of low-carb sandwiches are available nationwide at participating restaurants and range in price from $4.39 to $5.79.
