Velvet Taco, the Texas-born brand known for its globally inspired creations and cult following, will open its first Raleigh location on Monday, Feb. 16, at 4208 Six Forks Road, Suite 150, in North Hills.
The menu features more than 20 tacos and bowls made from scratch daily, including slow-roasted brisket, hand-pressed waffle tortillas, house-made sauces and pickles and husk-on roasted corn. Fan favorites like the Spicy Tikka Chicken, Bacon Smash Burger and Fish N’ Chips tacos lead the lineup, alongside signatures like the Kick-Ass Margarita and the brand’s namesake Red Velvet Cake, baked fresh in-house.
The brand’s Weekly Taco Feature (“WTF”) Program sets Velvet Taco apart with a limited-time taco dropping each week, resulting in 52 innovative tacos a year. For opening week Feb. 16-24, Raleigh gets an exclusive WTF – the Raleigh ‘Cue, drawing inspiration from the city’s Southern roots and local flavors, featuring Carolina pulled pork, cornbread hushpuppies, creamy slaw, pickled onions and fresnos on a flour tortilla.
Proceeds from the exclusive WTF will benefit Note in the Pocket, a local nonprofit providing clothing to homeless and impoverished children and families across Wake and Durham counties.
“North Hills has a vibrant, adventurous food culture, and the people here are eager to try something different, which is exactly the kind of community we thrive in,” said Bessie Henry, general manager of Velvet Taco North Hills. “We’re bringing flavor combinations unavailable anywhere else in Raleigh, and we’re opening by supporting a local organization doing critical work in Wake County. Partnering with Note in the Pocket from day one is an example of how we want to show up as neighbors invested in this community.”
Opening day celebrations include free tacos for a month for the first 56 guests, a nod to this being the brand’s 56th location. Guests who sign up for The Velvet Room loyalty program by February 15 will receive a free taco or bowl during opening week, plus an invite to VIP preview events, space permitting. Guests can also donate to Note in the Pocket during pre-opening events.
The 2,751-square-foot space features 62 seats inside and a 49-seat outdoor patio. Hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday.
