Blimpie continues its 50th birthday celebration with the roll out of the Hoboken Hero, a savory Italian sub sandwich packed with pepperoni, salami, prosciuttini, and provolone. The sub is a limited-time offer, available in stores nationwide until October 5, 2014.
The inspiration for the Hoboken Hero comes from Blimpie’s beginnings in Hoboken, New Jersey, where the first store was founded 50 years ago. This hero or sub sandwich is an ode to the Italian heritage that the Hoboken area was known for. After Blimpie’s founders opened their first store, word quickly spread that the new Blimpie was a must-try tasty treat. Customers lined up to try the new sub on the block.
“We created the Hoboken Hero to give our fans a taste of the original Blimpie experience,” says Steve Evans, vice president of marketing at Blimpie. “In 1964, three friends opened our very first store in Hoboken, and we want to salute the city and the people who helped us grow to become America’s favorite sub shop. We thank our loyal customers who now bring their children and grandchildren into our stores nationwide to eat the delicious subs they grew up with.”
Since opening its doors 50 years ago, Blimpie has added hundreds of stores nationwide, expanded internationally, and offered subs and wraps made with a variety of ingredients. However, customers still crave the same Italian meats that originally made the brand famous.
“Even though our menu has changed through the years, we remain committed to serving an amazing product with the highest quality ingredients,” Evans says. “We launched all of our 50th anniversary initiatives, including the Hoboken Hero, to celebrate our fans and share our timeless brand that has evolved to appeal to customers of all ages.”
The “Hoboken Hero” is one of many 50th anniversary campaigns Blimpie has rolled out in 2014. On the official birthday, April 4, all Blimpie stores offered up 50 cent regular-sized Blimpie Best subs to the first 200 customers who entered their stores. From May 5 through June 29, Blimpie hosted the Golden Giveaway contest that is sending one lucky winner and a guest on a trip to Hawaii, the 50th state. The summer-long contest also awarded dozens of other fans with prizes like free tablets, free subs for a year, and $50 Blimpie gift cards.
