Yum! Canada, the franchisor for iconic brands like KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell, has vaulted onto the menu as one of this year’s 50 Best Workplaces in Canada.
The Vaughan, Ontario–based company and its team of 85 Canadians placed No. 38 on this year’s Great Place to Work list.
Yum! Canada supports more than 1,000 restaurants through its franchise network. Around the world, Yum! Brands has more than 39,000 restaurants in more than 120 countries.
“Our team is the secret recipe that makes Yum! Canada such a dynamic, diverse, and exciting place to work, and it’s an honor to be listed among Canada’s best workplaces,” says Brian Henry, director of human resources, Yum! Canada.
“We know that people don't just play a role in our success; they are the reason for our success,” he adds. “Our corporate values—what we call our ‘How We Win Together’ principles—are built around a People Capability First philosophy and lay the groundwork for the way we team together every day.”
The list of “Best Workplaces in Canada” is compiled by Great Place to Work Institute Canada.
The competition process is based on two criteria: Two-thirds of the total score comes from a 58-statement survey completed by a random selection of employees, along with their open-ended comments about their organization; the remaining one-third of the score comes from an in-depth review of the organization’s culture, including an evaluation of HR policies and procedures.
This offers a rigorous representation of the organization from an employee perspective, as well as an overall portrait of the workplace culture. Together, they provide crucial data relative to the five trust-building dimensions of a great place to work: credibility, respect, fairness, pride, and camaraderie.
This year’s top 50 list received more than 300 nominations, and 57,000 employees participated in the 2013 “Best Workplaces in Canada” survey.
