A longtime classic from the menu of western U.S.-based Carl’s Jr. is heading eastward. The Western Bacon Cheeseburger on the Carl’s Jr. menu is available starting today at sister chain Hardee’s, under the name of the Western Bacon Thickburger.

The Western Bacon Cheeseburger is a signature burger for Carl’s Jr. and has been on the menu there for about 20 years. According to Brad Haley, evp of marketing for both Carl’s and Hardee’s, folks who knew the chains were related expressed their desire to see the Western Bacon Cheeseburger at Hardee’s. “After test markets verified that it would also sell well in the Midwest and South,” said Haley, “we determined it was time to introduce the Western Bacon Thickburger at Hardee’s.”

Built on a 1/3-pound Angus beef patty, the Hardee’s version of the Western Bacon Thickburger features bacon, American cheese, barbecue sauce, and fried onion strings.
