For a bit less than a value meal, Hong Kong patrons can now choose from a menu of their native dishes at a local McDonalds. On Monday, McDonald’s Hong Kong announced that it will begin serving Chinese –style meals like chicken and rice for HK$22, or $2.80.
Although many of the city’s children enjoy the standard McDonald’s menu of burgers, fries, and shakes, most adults prefer traditional Chinese dishes. And with Hong Kong experiencing a second recession in four years and fear of mad cow lingering, McDonald’s, like other quick-serves in the market, has experienced a sales decline. There is hope that the new menu items will help the chain capture a larger market and increase sales.
