Today, Jersey Mike’s Subs opens its 30th market with its first store in the state of Louisiana.  Restaurant industry veterans Bryan Selden and Jeff Worthen of Lone Star Restaurant Group are the local owners of this first restaurant in Shreveport.

The two experienced operators have opened three other Jersey Mike’s units and have development agreements for an additional 23.

The team’s other brands include 11 Great American Cookies, two Pretzel Times, six Wingstops, and six Smashburgers (out of a 20-store agreement).  They were named area developers for TCBY self serve for the state of Texas and have several stores in various stages of development.

“Jeff and I are thrilled to be blazing a trail into Jersey Mike’s 30th state, Louisiana,” Selden says.

“Jersey Mike’s Subs has been around for 55 years, creating wonderful customer experiences one sub at a time.  To be part of this inspiring company and already setting a milestone could not make us happier.”

To commemorate the event, the new restaurant, located at 7435 Youree Drive, is hosting a 5-day fundraiser from Wednesday, October 26 through Sunday, October 30, with proceeds supporting Captain Shreve High School and C. E. Byrd High School.  Anyone who has a fundraising coupon can get a free regular sub for a minimum $1 contribution.  Coupons are being circulated throughout the community and in local newspapers.

CEO Peter Cancro started the company at age 17, before he was even legally able to slice a sub.  Today, Jersey Mike’s has more than 500 locations open and in-development nationwide.

The company remains committed to making a difference in the communities it serves.  In May, Jersey Mike’s Subs went pink, kicking off a six-month fundraiser, “Mike’s Way to a Cure,” benefiting Susan G. Komen for the Cure which culminates at the end of October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The goal is to raise one million dollars for cancer research.

In addition, another nationwide fundraiser, “Month of Giving,” in March 2011 raised more than $600,000 for 66 local charities.

Jersey Mike’s is known for its New Jersey–style subs, made “Mike’s Way” with onions, lettuce, tomatoes and a signature blend of olive oil, red wine vinegar, and spices.  The company only uses private labeled meats and cheeses that are sliced fresh for each sandwich and piled high on in-store baked bread.

This continues Jersey Mike’s steady growth strategy, selecting area directors and franchisees that share the company’s commitment to quality products, exceptional customer service and giving back to the local community.

Jersey Mike’s, a sub sandwich franchise with more than 500 stores open and under development nationwide, was started at the Jersey Shore in 1956.
