Freshëns decided to “bare it all” with its new all-natural yogurt and smoothie base mixes. The back-to-the-basics approach included a vast reengineering of the entire product line based on research by the Culinary Edge, a development firm based in San Francisco. It was concluded that Freshëns could reformulate its most popular yogurt and smoothie mixes to meet current “all natural” demands by their core 18–24-year-old demographic.
Freshëns soft-serve yogurt now includes live and active Probiotic cultures to help promote a healthy digestive tract and support the body’s defenses. All yogurt and smoothie mixes are either low fat or fat free. Freshens also fortifies each blended smoothie with 100 percent of U.S. Recommended Daily Allowance of Vitamin A, C, D, E and 25 percent calcium.
The most recent nutrition innovations include the removal of high fructose corn syrup as a sweetener in all yogurt and smoothie base mixes. Chocolate and vanilla yogurt mixes, the yogurt and fruit juice smoothie mix, and the Brazilian Açaí Smoothie mix are now all natural, with no artificial colors or flavors.
“Today’s consumers are highly informed and selective, constantly searching for products that both taste good and are healthy for you,” says John Stern, president of Freshëns. “We always strive to provide exactly what our customers want, and what is important to them becomes important to us. Going all natural is a giant step not only for our customers but for our company and industry as a whole.”
