Sam’s Sorrento Pizza was once again voted “Best Pizza” at this year’s Festival of the Pizza, a fundraiser for the Clinton Township American Cancer Society Relay for Life, held March 24, 2013, at Chippewa Valley High School in Clinton Township, Michigan. The event raised more than $9,500 for the American Cancer Society.
“It’s a win-win being involved with the Relay For Life of Clinton Township,” says Al Marino, owner of Sam’s Sorrento Pizza. “We really enjoy the event and all the pizzerias. We thank all the people who were there who supported Sorrento with their votes.”
Franchise owner Vince Lepore, of the Clinton Township Cass Avenue Sorrento Pizza location, says he is proud of his crew and their pizzas.
“We served three of our specialty pizzas, along with our cheese and pepperoni. Everyone kept coming back for more of the Coney, the BBQ Chicken, and the Greek pizzas,” he says. “We went through over 1,200 slices of pizza.”
Nearly 1,000 attendees cast their votes for their favorite pizza of the day with Sam’s Sorrento Pizza winning the top spot.
Detroit Style Pizza Company came in second, with Green Lantern in third ahead of other pizzerias including Jet’s, Shield’s, Hungry Howie’s, Sherwood Brewing, and Domino’s.
Relay For Life is an event that gives communities a chance to support the American Cancer Society’s efforts.
Chippewa Valley will be hosting its overnight event at the Chippewa Valley 9th Grade Center May 18, with the goal of keeping at least one team member on the track at all times throughout the event, signifying that cancer never sleeps.
