In appreciation of the extraordinary service nurses provide on a daily basis, Cinnabon Inc. and The DAISY Foundation are offering these professionals a free Cinnabon Classic Roll when they show their healthcare ID or badge at participating bakeries during Nurses Week, May 5-11, 2008.
“Nurses constantly put others before themselves, so we’re happy to celebrate them during Nurses Week and thank them for their compassionate and caring service each and every day,” says Geoff Hill, president of Cinnabon. “We also commend The DAISY Foundation for their passionate efforts to recognize these truly unsung community heroes, and we continue to grow a long-lasting relationship with this outstanding organization.”
Bonnie and Mark Barnes of Glen Ellen, California, and their family members established The DAISY Foundation in January 2000 to recognize nurses after Mark’s son, Pat, died of complications from an auto-immune disease. During his extended hospital stay, Pat would only eat Cinnabon Classic rolls, and he insisted his care nurses have some as well. Since its inception, the foundation has presented more than 2,500 nurses in over 200 medical facilities nationwide with The DAISY Award, which includes Cinnabon rolls and gift certificates for each recipient.
“While the circumstances under which we created The DAISY Foundation were certainly painful, we feel blessed to honor nurses across the country,” said Bonnie Barnes, co-founder of The DAISY Foundation. “We’re grateful to have the tremendous support of the Cinnabon brand. Our message to nurses at every DAISY presentation is that whenever a nurse smells that wonderful Cinnabon aroma as they pass by a Cinnabon bakery, they should take a moment to think about how special she or he is because of their dedication to taking care of the rest of us.”
